A NEW YEAR WITH A NEW CHALLENGE

Dear Prayer Partners:

First of all, we want to wish you a Happy New Year in 2013 with many blessings from the Lord. This new ECF Global Vision bi-monthly comes to you with good news and many challenges.

Good News #1 -- The ECF Board met on January 26 and approved the Global Ministry for 2013 together with a workable budget. All Board members shared their visions and commitments with enthusiasm. Dr. Lane, Chair for the ECF International Council gave a strong message on Christ -- our Living Hope in this Dying world.

Good News #2 -- Out Global Partners in all 12 countries responded with great cooperation, not only in reaching out with the Gospel but also in raising financial support for these urgent missionary projects. We are deeply grateful for such a strong partnership.

Good News #3 -- Many doors of sharing God's love in China are opened for ECF in this new year. We look to the Lord for His leading each step. We also look to you, our Prayer Partners, for your strong support so that we can accomplish what God has given.

Challenge #1 -- We are in need of more volunteers to join our Summer Missions Teams, especially those going to China for teaching English, Medical services and Professional Training etc. Please ask God to send His chosen team members for this ministry.

Challenge #2 -- We pray that the 13 DVD Series "The Sound of Life" can get on TV in China. This series had been on TV here in Southern California and in Hong Kong.

Challenge #3 --Postage and printing cost for our Newsletters had been raised several times during these last three years. Please pray for our staff and support this task.

May God bless you richly with His grace and love.

                                                                                       In Christ with Hope,

                                                                                       Paul C.C. Szeto

Dr. Alton Gould Went to be with the Lord
Dr. Alton A. Gould, ECF Chairman Emeritus, completed his 90 long years life journey and went to be with the Lord on January 5, 2013 around 11:47pm at the F.J. Davey Home, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. Phyllis, his beloved wife for 65 years was by his side. The family decided to hold a celebration in Canada on June 1, 2013 at his 91st birthday. Please remember his three children and their spouses and children: Gail & Martin Storey; Robert & Sherry; and Sandy & Denny Holloway, in your prayers.

Dr. Gould was born on June 1, 1922. Gave his heart to God at thirteen. Ordained into the Gospel ministry in 1943. Sent to Hunan, China in 1947 as a young missionary. Left China after two short years of service, due to political change. Married Phyllis Joynt in 1949. Returned to Hong Kong in 1954. His thirteen years of missionary service in Hong Kong with the support from several Chinese pastors witnessed the opening of 9 churches and 7 Primary Schools with over 3,500 students enrolled each year.

From 1967 to 1975, his dynamic leadership for the children's program in the Philippines led to amazing results. With the help from the local government, this small program for needy children grew from 750 to over 25,000. He received the Honorary Doctor of Humanities Degree from the Philippine Christian University in 1975.

Upon his return to North America, he was able to expand certain denominational missions works and pastored several churches with great success. With Mrs. Phyllis Gould, they were named "Parents of the Year" by the Spring Arbor College, Michigan in 1979. Dr. Gould was also honored as Alumnus of the Year in 1987 by Aldersgate College, New York.

While in Hong Kong, Dr. Gould baptized Paul Szeto in 1955. In his retirement, Dr. Gould was elected Chairman of ECF International in 1987 where Dr. Szeto has been serving as President of this Global Ministry. Dr. Gould was invited to preach around the world for the ECF evangelistic and educational opportunities . After ten years of influential service, Dr. Gould was given the honor as "Chairman Emeritus" for the ECF International. Five books and a DVD had been published for Dr. Gould:

       1. The Abundant Life (1987)
       2. The Boundless Power of Prayer (1991)
       3. Gebet Kennt Keine Grenzen (in German 1992)
       4. At Every Bend of the Road (1997)
       5. Ambassador of Love (DVD 2004)
       6. A Steadfast Hope (2012)

(Write for these spiritual reading material and DVD. ECF will send to you as a free gift)

CHINA
Before the Chinese New Year Celebration, Rev. Eddie Chan presented the Pastoral Assistant Fund to Chairman Lee at the Sihui Christian Church for the support of their pastors. This fund was established in honor of Dr. and Mrs. Harold Lane, pastor of Mrs. Dorcas Szeto who was born in Sihui. Ten years ago, ECF helped to build this new church. By the grace of God and the hard works of the congregation, membership has grown from 80 to over 500. Praise the Lord.
