Deeper Friendship and Greater Service
By Dr. Paul Szeto
This issue of our Global Vision magazine will bring you our best wishes and warm greetings for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. We want to thank you for your deep friendship over the years because this Missions-Partner relationship we enjoy in the Lord has opened up many doors of opportunities for greater services in China.

Dr. Harold Lane, ECF International Chairman, and I spent ten busy days in China and Hong Kong (October 14-24) with rich blessings from the Lord. On Oct. 16, I shared the word of the Lord at the Chong-yi Church in Hangzhou with over 7,000 attending. The next day, Dr. Lane, together with the three medical doctors (Anson Yew, Christine Szeto and Andrew Cheng) from America presented the Medical Mobile to this new ministry in Hangzhou. Our three doctors and Mrs. Annie Cheng joined with several local physicians provided one day free medical services to the seniors. The love of God was fully demonstrated through personal caring and medical treatment.

On Oct. 18, we joined with the delegation from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, led by Dr. Henry Holly and Dr. John Akers for a meeting with Rev. Joseph Gu, Senior Pastor of the Chong-yi Church who officiated the dedication of the new Senior Home with a small hospital and a chapel. A band with over 75 musicians played glorious hymns and traditional songs for the service.

Dr. Lane and I went on to Beijing. Ms. Ma and several officials from the State Administration for Religious Affairs welcomed us to a Tibetan luncheon where they also welcomed Gary Locke, our new Ambassador to China a few weeks ago. I baptized Gary about 40 years ago in Seattle Chinese Baptist Church. It was such a rewarding time to share our mutual vision and cooperative effort in various religious programs both inside and outside of China this past decade.

We took a special trip to Tianjin for a visit with Dr. L.J. Sun who is a member of the ECF International Chapel in Monterey Park. Together with Mr. J.T. Liu, they established the Tianjin Oculax Blotech company, manufacturing the ocupoint patch for eye relaxing.

On Sunday, October 23, I preached at the Sihui Christian Church which grew from 50 to about 500 in just seven short years. A hundred believers were baptized this August. Dr. Lane presented a love gift - a Pastoral Assistantship, as a practical way to help the pastors. He encouraged all believers to continue to trust the Lord with serious commitment for outreach.

Our last day in Hong Kong was a dinner meeting with ECF board member, Mr. Stephen Leung, Mr. Ching-kong Mou and Rev. Eddie Chan, mapping out new strategies for 2012 in establishing a Leadership Training Center in Hong Kong for greater service.

We came home very tired but our hearts are filled with joy and thanksgiving to the Lord.

ECF Delegation from USA

China Bible Exhibition in Four Cities with Great Success
Five years ago, ECF co-sponsored the First China Bible Exhibition in three major cities in America -- Los Angeles, Atlanta and New York. Our Global Communication Center even produced a DVD with the name: "Excitement in Three Cities" which featured the personal support of Billy Graham and Jimmy Carter. This year, the Second China Bible Exhibition was welcomed to four cities: Washington DC, Chicago, Dallas and Charlotte . "Thy Word is Truth" is the Theme for this year. Dr. and Mrs. Paul Szeto were invited to attend the Opening Ceremony in Washington DC on September 28. Ambassador Yesui Zhang from China cut the ribbon. Former president Jimmy Carter sent his personal greetings. Mr. Zou-an Wang, Minister of State Administration of Religious Affairs from China, gave his support for this great event. Rev. Feng Gao, President of China Christian Council, provided new and exciting information on Bible printing and the Christian church. Since the Open Policy in 1980, there are now 56,000 churches and meetings points in China. Christian population is about 23 million. Bible production has jumped from 40 million in 2006 to over 55 million in 2011.

With the help of Dr. Ben Chen, who represents one of the Exhibition Sponsors, a delegation of 13, led by Elder Xianwei Fu, visited Los Angeles October 6-8. As the local host, Dr. Szeto of ECF was able to arrange for this delegation to visit the Saddleback Church, Fuller Theological Seminary, ECF Global Communication Center and Monterey Park City Hall. Mayor David Lau gave this delegation a warm welcome. Each received from the Mayor an Honorary Certificate. Dr. Peter Lai and Dr. Morson Chiu welcomed these friends with a Chinese banquet. Great fellowship was enjoyed by all.

7th Anniversary for the Chapel
Grace Community Chapel celebrated its 7th Anniversary with thanksgiving on Sunday, September 18, 2011. Rev. Eddie Chan shared the vision of the church future growth. He encouraged and challenged the congregation to be equipped through the discipleship training. The Sunday school students and the worship team received certificates of perfect attendants and gifts.

The Orphanage is ready for the relocation to the new building. The construction and decoration of the new place are in the final stage. Starting year 2012, everyone in the Orphanage will participate in the "Reading The Bible" campaign by selecting one book in the Bible and studying it thoroughly within two years. Please pray for the spiritual growth of the children and the staff of the Orphanage.

Pastoral Support Fund Presentation
Sihui Christian Church is a growing church in China. A hundred new members were baptized into the church this summer. In less than 10 years, the congregation has grown from 50 to 500 people. Back in year 2008, ECF established a Pastoral Assistantship Fund in honor of Dr. & Mrs. Harold Lane, to provide care for the needs of all the pastoral staff at Sihui Church.

On Sunday, October 23, Dr. Szeto and Dr. Lane visited Sihui Church. Dr. Lane made the special presentation of the fund to the church and encouraged the church to keep on growing and to be the salt and light of the city.

New Building will be under Construction
Rev. K.W. Too, Principal of the Bethel Bible Institute, is excited to report that the new building project is going to be under construction later this year after a few months delay. This new building will increase the capacity of the classrooms, guest rooms and the library. ECF donated 4000 books to the library last year for this project. The budget for the building project is US$400,000.

This year, a total of 130 students attend with 87 in the Chinese department and 43 in the Thai department. Please pray for the institute and the needs of the new building project.

International Chapel is Growing
The ECF International Chapel in Monterey Park is truly blessed with Christian leaders and Board members such as Dr. Samuel Lo and Dr. Nathan Yeh who have provided spiritual food on many Sundays. Also, the month of October welcomed the "Women's Sunday" and "Youth Sunday," with wonderful sharing and singing in both worship services. This small congregation is enjoying steady growth in the Lord.

Bible Study Program at Grace Home
Grace Home has partnered with a local church and is now conducting a weekly Bible study program for the children. Church members come to teach a Bible story and memory verse. There is also a singing session and memory verse recitation. This activity is in addition to the daily devotion time at the orphanage.

Children send their thanks
The sponsored children received a sack of rice, meal bags, and school supplies generously provided by their ECF sponsors. Gratefully, they send their appreciation for the assistance which helps augment their daily needs.

Heavenly Blessings Came to:
Senior Home, Small Hospital and Large Chapel
For the last three years, the Hangzhou Christian Council, under the leadership of Rev. Gu, has been working hard with government officials and architect Seyuen Chan to establish a new senior home with a chapel. As a result, God not only bless them with a beautiful home, a large chapel, but also added a practical small hospital in the same compound.

October 18 was truly a historic and unforgettable day. Rev. Joseph Gu officiated the dedication with a large group of government officials. Dr. Holly brought greetings from Billy and Franklin Graham. Over a thousand came to this event. ECF donated all 250 pews for the new chapel. Government officials praised the great effort of the Hangzhou Christian Council in establishing such a program of love to help the needy in the community. Elder Xianwei Fu, Chairman, National Committee of Three-Self Patriotic Movement of the Protestant Churches in China, came from Shanghai to bring special greetings on behalf of the entire Christian community all throughout China.

The Theme "Provide Things Honest in the Sight of All Men" was chosen from Romans 12:17 to reflect the deep spiritual commitment of many Christians in China. The three hour event concluded with a fellowship luncheon. God's name was glorified.

Love in Motion

October 17, 2011 was a meaningful day for nearly 100 seniors in Hangzhou. ECF in partnership with Hangzhou Christian Council, invited three medical doctors from USA (Dr. Anson Yew, Dr. Christine Szeto from California and Dr. Andrew Cheng and his wife Annie from New York) to join with several local physicians to provide one day medical services to seniors.

This new home in Hangzhou will provide 150 additional beds with up-to-date medical facilities. ECF supporters in America made special love gifts for the purchase of a new Medical Mobile for practical use in this new ministry. People in China are deeply grateful for this gift and called it "Love in Motion". More professional volunteers are needed to help in various projects and services in the future.

If you are looking for short-term mission opportunities to serve the Lord in China, please pray for these two items:

(1) Short-term medical, nursing, teaching English in China.
     1-2 weeks in late July-August 2012
Contact ECF by letter or email

(2) Memorial Love Gift to support the Medical Mobile Project.
Since ECF needs $37,000 to reach the goal of $80,000 for the
purchase of the medical mobile, your love gift is most appreciated.
All donations are tax deductible in USA.
